As more people choose to invest in the industry, collectors are looking for quality images and videos to purchase. That being said, marketplaces have put restriction limits on file sizes to help manage their databases.

This post will cover marketplace restrictions, list the file sizes of a few famous NFTs, and answer a few questions about how file sizes affect the industry.

NFT Size Restrictions By Marketplace

While there is no max file size for your NFT digital art, each NFT marketplace will have different restrictions on its file size limits. Even with the max limits, many will recommend that you upload a smaller image to allow it to load faster.

OpenSea was founded in late 2017 by two men who were passionate about the industry.

Early history (2014–2017)

The first known “NFT”, Quantum,[19] was created by Kevin McCoy and Anil Dash in May 2014. It consists of a video clip made by McCoy’s wife, Jennifer. McCoy registered the video on the Namecoin blockchain and sold it to Dash for $4, during a live presentation for the Seven on Seven conference at the New Museum in New York City.
McCoy and Dash referred to the technology as “monetized graphics”.[20] This explicitly linked a non-fungible, tradable blockchain marker to a work of art, via on-chain metadata (enabled by Namecoin).

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a financial security consisting of digital data stored in a blockchain, a form of distributed ledger. The ownership of an NFT is recorded in the blockchain, and can be transferred by the owner, allowing NFTs to be sold and traded. NFTs typically contain references to digital files such as photos, videos, and audio.

Because NFTs are uniquely identifiable, they differ from cryptocurrencies, which are fungible. The market value of an NFT is associated with the digital file it references.

Proponents of NFTs claim that NFTs provide a public certificate of authenticity or proof of ownership, but the legal rights conveyed by an NFT can be uncertain.

The collection featured, you guessed it, a multitude of bored apes customized in different accessories and outfits. The concept? Individually own a unique, bored ape that speaks to you.

However, while the Bored Ape NFTs have infiltrated mainstream media and society, there are many other NFT collections and individual pieces. In short, artists (including you!) can make an NFT and anyone can buy it.

    Who? How? Why?

In the case of the Bored Ape NFTs, there was quite the incentive to buy one.

Firstly, with the NFT business booming, a Bored Ape NFT quickly became a status symbol, with customers who owned an Ape changing their profile pictures with their unique NFT.

Like an emoji or a Bitmoji, a purchased NFT can become a version of you, a character trait or personality personified in a customizable NFT.

MP3s are compact and will play on any player, on any device.

If you want to include a high-fidelity file, use the FLAC or ALAC file formats. Both formats are very similar, the defining difference being that FLAC is windows compatible, while ALAC can be used on iOS.

    3D Artwork

Best File Format for 3D Art NFT:

GLB is a 3D image file format that supports animation and movement and is the only one that contains a complete PBR shader and textures. It is a single-file format that makes viewing easy and is more lightweight than other 3D file formats.
GLB is also an open-source format that is compatible with most 3D software.

GLB files are best for web and mobile applications and NFTs.

Part of the great value of art is derived from its irreplaceable status. The possibility of copies dilutes that value.

The blockchain solution has been adopted by that world to guarantee authenticity and track provenance. Art produced today will often get that kind of identifiers.

The unalterable feature of blockchains gives absolute assurance of the data on identity, and the smart contracts will automatically update any movement. This is not limited to works of art.

    More than art

Most of the headline-grabbing sales of NFTs all concern works of art like the Hashmasks collection that sold for $16 million in under a week, or the work of the artist Beeple that sold for $69 million. Beeple’s real name is Mike Winkelmann.
