It would be difficult to miss.

What makes this particular transaction extra suspicious is that the seller (cchan.eth) alsosold a Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT (#11670)at the same time for 25 DAI ($25). Again, that’s dramatically lower than the floor price or the cheapest available Mutant Ape on a marketplace, which is currently at 22.8 ETH (over $76,000).

So while it’s possible that someone made a mistake and sold a pair of NFTs for at least $461,000 less than their market value, it could also be the result of some kind of exploit.

OpenSea recently dealt with anexploit regarding inactive marketplace listingsthat had not automatically expired, and doled out millions of dollars to compensate victims. In another recent situation, OpenSeablamed an external phishing attackwhen users saw NFTs in their respective wallets sold without their express permission.

It even created history as the highest OpenSea sale from the BAYC ecosystem.

Mutant Apes have become blue-chip NFTs in their own right

As of March 23, 2022, the collection has amassed a secondary sales volume of 286.9K ETH (currently over $850 million) on OpenSea. In addition, it has a current floor price of 21.85 ETH.
Unsurprisingly, those numbers have it ranked as the number eight NFT collection by all-time volume on DappRadar’s ranking.

Like the BAYC collection, the Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT Collection has also seen a large number of huge individual sales. Indeed, soon after minting went live,Mutant Ape #9209 – the Mega Swamp Mutant Ape – sold for a whopping 222 ETH.
And it’s only the fourth-highest MAYC sale!

To clarify, it falls behind Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT #6957 “Mega Jelly” (250 ETH) and #1796 “Mega Radioactive” (335 ETH).

Then there’sMutant Ape #4849, the “Mega Demon”, which currently holds the record for the highest-sold NFT in the collection at 350 ETH. Several other NFTs in the collection have sold for ETH amounts that equate to more than $500,000.

Several celebrities have aped into the MAYC NFT collection as well.

American Rapper, Lil Baby, for instance, holds MAYC #129. He has even proudly displayed it as his Twitter PFP for his 6.2 million followers! Known NFT enthusiast Snoop Dogg holds a full set of BAYC #7723 and MAYC (M1 and M2).

Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda, retired NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, and DJ Steve Aoki are some of the other celebrities who hold Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs.

Needless to say, the incredible attention to detail in each Mutant Ape artwork has made these NFTs quite appealing to fans and collectors.

While the MAYC public auction was intended to be more accessible and affordable than the Bored Ape NFTs — which were selling for the equivalent of millions of USD at the time of sale — Mutant Apes were auctioned for an average price of about USD 10,000 — and sold out in only an hour. Notably, Mutant Apes netted much higher fees than the original BAYC collection, which amounted to around USD 200 per Bored Ape only four months earlier.

Here’s how it worked for BAYC members: Those who held onto their Bored Ape NFTs wereairdroppedMutant Serum, an NFT that could beburnedto create a Mutant Ape — a mutant evolution of their original Bored Ape. While the Serum itself can be bought and sold, you can only create one mutant variety of each Bored Ape.

Released randomly, there were three versions of the Serum, with the rarest version being limited to only 8 vials.

The market cap of MAYC is around 375,607.01 ETH, which amounts to approximately USD 734,125,905.50, according to CoinGecko as of 19 May 2022.

Why is BAYC so expensive?

One of the top-selling NFT series by Yuga Labs, BAYC’s avatars’ value depends on the number of unique features they have and how many apes share these characteristics. For example, Bored Ape YC #7495 is one of the rarest apes, with a rarity score of 364.42.

Its seven traits are an aquamarine background, a dagger in its mouth, a cross earring, a cyborg eye, Dmt fur, a wool turtleneck and an Irish boho hat.

Additionally, celebrity ownership has driven the sale and popularity of these collectables.

An NFT collector was in a panic this week when his Bored Ape and Mutant Ape were seemingly stolen on OpenSea.

What’s it like to lose a Bored Ape? Such a catastrophe should be nearly impossible, but it became a living nightmare for one collector this week.

As it turns out, a Bored Ape and a Mutant Ape sold for 100% below their floor prices on March 28 on OpenSea. Calvin Chan is the owner of Bored Ape #835 and Mutant Ape #11670, both of which sold for $115 and $25, respectively.

Luckily, he got his NFTs back, per his Twitter account. The transactions happened with the DAI cryptocurrency, a stablecoin on the Ethereum blockchain that aims to keep its value as close to the U.S.
