Huntley’s project is called The NTF Bay, and it appears similar to The Pirate Bay — a previously-mainstream torrent site that deserves an Ozon’s Salute — and hosts thousands of NFT fakes with a collective size of over 15TB.
An “NFT is Just a Hyperlink To An Image,” Except It’s Not!
Contrary to popular belief, NFTs are ownership agreements and not the images (or other media) traded online. An NFT establishes a unique smart contract between the buyer and the seller of any asset — which can vary from illustrations of Bored Apes to customizable digital kitties to even real estate. These tokens are stored over blockchain networks like Ethereum using standards such as ERC-721 and ERC-1155. Since the agreement that certifies ownership is stored on a blockchain, it is easily verifiable and cannot be easily tampered with.
With this, has come the “right click, save as” memes that have led to generally pretty hilarious discourse.
This week, someone turned “right click, save as” up a notch. Australian artist and programmer Geoffrey Huntley has created ‘The NFT Bay,’ the ultimate right click, save as resource for NFTs – and one that mimics The Pirate Bay layout.
NFT & Me(me)
Also listed on The NFT Bay is a massive folder encompassing 15 terabytes of “all NFTs from Ethereum & Solana” and release notes that state:
Did you know that a NFT is just a hyperlink to an image thats usually hosted on Google Drive or another web2.0 webhost?
People are dropping millions on instructions on how to download images. That’s why you can right click save-as because they are standard images.
At the bottom is an actual download link — clicking on it will get you the torrent, letting you download a file called “preview.jpg” which shows off a bunch of Bored Ape images, as well as zip files that supposedly contain all the NFTs from the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. All told, the download is just under 20TB. That is, to put it mildly, a lot of image files.
A familiar argument is playing out in the replies to Huntley’s announcement tweet — NFT haters point to it as a triumph that proves NFTs have no value, and crypto fans try to prove how unbothered they are by replying in droves that it’s actually the proof of ownership, not the image, that gives NFTs their value.
NFTs have been booming over the past year. People are willing to pay millions of dollars just to prove that they “own” a digital item that was worthless before.
These digital entries, stored on a blockchain, allow the buyers to prove that they are legitimate owners. While it’s different from a copyright, NFTs owners are rightsholders in a sense.
The NFT Bay
However, that doesn’t mean that other people can’t copy the associated files, which are often widely available. This is made pretty clear by The NFT Bay, which launched just a few hours ago.
The site, which is clearly inspired by The Pirate Bay, shares a torrent with “pirated” versions of NFTs.
“The Billion Dollar Torrent,” as it’s called, reportedly includes all the NFTs on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains.
Geoff further stated that the excitement about Twitter’s blue verification check mark is a perfect example of why verifiable proof of membership may be the key. “However, all of this,” Jeff emphasized. “It can be achieved without a blockchain.”
“The things people dream of building with’web3′ are amazing,” the creator of NFT Bay concluded. “The underlying technology, not so much, and greed/fraud is disgusting. Dreams of a different future reminds me of the Internet in the 1990s. What is fascinating is that the community is very powerful and can be self-funded to explore the stage.
Pear Shape The place of figure is “We must get fresh blood” [a] Pump/dump. ‘”
The question is how much value people will invest in this so-called “NFT heist”, because people may simply treat the seed file as not a “real” and verifiable NFT.
The seedbox hosting the torrent has 4 x 10TB SATA drives configured in RAID0 and the web site is humming along barely fine even though the web site is going insanely viral, ” Geoff says .
The NFT Bay is not good any random art project. It does come with a message, possibly a wake-up birdcall, for people who jump on the NFT bandwagon without fully realizing what they ’ re spending their crypto profits on . “ Purchasing NFT art right nowadays is nothing more than directions on how to access or download an persona. The image is not stored on the blockchain and the majority of images I ’ ve seen are hosted on Web 2.0 storage which is probably to end up as 404 meaning the NFT has even less value.
” The same admonitory is more sharply articulated in the flood ’ sulfur dismissal notes which are styled in on-key plagiarist fashion .
NFTs are unique blockchain entries through which people can prove that they own something. However, the underlying images can be copied with a single click. This point is illustrated by The NFT Bay which links to a 19.5 Terabyte collection of ‘all NFTs’ on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains.
And it comes with an important warning message too. TorrentFreak reports: ‘The Billion Dollar Torrent,’ as it’s called, reportedly includes all the NFTs on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. These files are bundled in a massive torrent that points to roughly 15 terabytes of data. Unpacked, this adds up to almost 20 terabytes. Australian developer Geoff is the brains behind the platform, which he describes as an art project.
Speaking with TorrentFreak, he says that The Pirate Bay was used as inspiration for nostalgic reasons, which needs further explanation.
Thinking that you’re getting the same thing by saving the JPEG is a right-click mindset, as they say.
I mean, good art is supposed to spark discussion, right?
For his part, Huntley explains that part of his reasoning for making it was the fact that NFTs very often don’t store any media on the blockchain, instead just linking to a version stored on a potentially fragile web server. He also gives a much more in-depth explanation behind the influences for The NFT Bay in an FAQ on his GitHub and in an excellent interview with Motherboard.
What’s an NFT?
NFTs allow you to buy and sell ownership of unique digital items and keep track of who owns them using the blockchain. NFT stands for “non-fungible token,” and it can technically contain anything digital, including drawings, animated GIFs, songs, or items in video games.
This page is also updated quite frequently, so the info available is usually good.
Step 2: Perhaps the best site about the Pirate Bay is its wiki, which is available at https://www.thepiratebay.wiki/
Learn to download files on ThePirateBay. Available worldwide.
There you can find information on many topics related to the PirateBay, such as a list of mirrors and proxy servers. This information can be handy when the Pirate Bay is down or it is forbidden in your country of residency.
A great advantage of this list is that as it is from the official wiki, the links contained may be more reliable. Although, never feel 100% safe and always be alert for funny happenings.
The site also contains a list of other torrent sites, such as Kickass, Zooqle and more. These sites can also be a good source for movies, TV shows, ebooks, and other types of files that may interest you.
Geoff also shared his overall view of NFT. Geoff believes that the utility and value of NFT will come from social media platforms.
Well, one thing I would reluctantly enjoy about NFT is the massive NFT robbery https://t.co/99CHEmfngB

“For many digital representations physical representations and (if/when) Twitter/TikTok (disharmony stay away from it) introduced the ability to show talent on social media profiles, this will be a turning point,” the press statement explained.
In the future, the ecosystem will be replenished from the amount spent by players.
The daily award pool is always the same and is divided among all playing users. So, 10 players in the game will get more tokens than 100 because the award pool doesn’t change. As a result, users that will enter the game after buying NFT will be earning more and faster than players that will enter the game after release.
NFTs from the collection also impact the gameplay.
They help gain more resources, piastres, and trophies, which can be obtained after battles. NFTs provide early access to the game and improve your performance.
Until the imagination of metaverses surpassing the physical world come to fruition, the NFT space might continue to confuse and delude many.
Despite his skepticism, Huntley believes in a future where NFTs fit well, but he doesn’t associate it with a blockchain. Instead, he feels the popularity of NFTs will be backed by the desire to flaunt them on social media — quite similar to the alluring Twitter blue badge.
