The BAYC game is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2022.

The game will include Bored Ape NFTs, but the announcement provided few other details. So far, the developers haven’t said which blockchain the game will run on, but it will likely be Ethereum or a Layer-2 on Ethereum. It is also unclear whether the game will be open to the public or only to BAYC NFT holders. “We’re excited to work with Animoca Brands to grow the BAYC universe and expand the utility and benefits offered to all Bored Ape NFT holders,” said a spokesman for Yuga Labs.

The BAYC team announced on October 8 that it plans to launch its own token in the first quarter of 2022. It stated in a Twitter post that it wants to take its time building a legally compliant and sustainable token.

The plot so far

It all started when the BAYC team announced the ‘airdrop’ of 10,000 NFTs with so-called “mutant serums”, meant to be distributed among the current Bored Ape owners. According to the idea of the project, MAYC will consist of 20,000 all-new mutant monkeys, half of which will be sold at an auction, while the other half will be obtained through the use of “mutant serums” on the collectibles from the original BAYC line.

The nature of the mutations

Using Chainlink VRF technology, the BAYC team randomly issued mutant serums to bored ape owners. The serum comes in three tiers: M1, M2, and M3 “Mega Mutant”, each causing a specific type of mutation.

The M3 serum creates a completely different ape, with potentially rarer—and therefore more valuable—traits.

The airdrop was a great deal for Bored Ape holders, since they could keep their original NFT while minting a valuable extra token.

The Mutant Apes, claimed either for free by the holders or bought for 3 ETH in the public sale, now sell for a minimum of 7 ETH ($22,400) each. The Mutant Apes have generated about $88.4 million in trading volume since they launched, according to data from NFT marketplace OpenSea.

Bored Ape owners (including, as of yesterday, NBA star Stephen Curry) often use their ape as their Twitter profile picture to signal their membership in the club. Curry bought his ape for $180,000.

Bored Apes are the fifth-most successful crypto-collectible project of all time.

To make this a reality, it is collaborating with the Fenwick & West legal team and Horizen Labs for blockchain development.

How to Buy NFTs

An ever-expanding list of blockchains support NFTs, but Ethereum is by far the most dominant. Ethereum is also home to some of the most popular NFT projects. When it comes to NFT marketplaces, OpenSea was the first and continues to be the largest by a wide margin.
If you’re looking for an NFT, chances are you’ll be dealing with both of them.

To begin, you’ll need a wallet that can connect to OpenSea. There are several options, but MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet are 2 of the best. To make purchases, you’ll also need enough Ether (ETH) in your wallet.

As the global Covid-19 pandemic accelerated digital adoption, NFTs evolved into assets for displaying socioeconomic status.

The Future of Bored Ape Yacht Club

Many people believe that BAYC is gradually moving beyond the blockchain. BAYC announced in December that it was collaborating with Animoca Brands on a play-to-earn game.

The BAYC collection contains 10,000 unique NFTs produced through algorithms from over 172 plausible traits that determine the esoteric nature of each ape.

There are 10,000 original Bored Ape NFTs, each with a unique combination of fur color, background color, outfits, and accessories. Yet, they all have the same uninterested expression. These characteristics assign a value to each ape based on how many other apes share the same features.

Blue beams on 49 apes, laser eyes on 69 apes, solid gold fur on 46 apes, and “Bored Unshaven Pizza” mouth are among the most sought-after features.
The rarer the characteristics of an ape image, the more worthy the NFT. According to data collected until March 2022, the value of BAYC trading on the OpenSea marketplace was well over 466,000 ETH.

Yet if that quick ascension isn’t wild enough for you, how about the BAYC team’s blockbuster rollout of the Mutant Ape Yacht Club collection over the weekend?

MAYC rewards BAYC’s early community members and opens the project’s doors to more newcomers, and in a matter of days the series has already entered the top 10 most-traded NFT projects ever! Let’s catch up on all the excitement in today’s Metaversal 🦍

Rise of the Mutant Apes

Last week the BAYC team announced a surprise airdrop of 10k “mutant serum” NFTs on a 1:1 basis with Bored Ape holders and in doing so unveiled the arrival of the MAYC collection.

Now let’s move on.

Mutant Ape Yacht Club Basics

So you know enough about Bored Ape Yacht Club to be dangerous, but last weekend Mutant Ape Yacht Club was announced and now everything confusing again. Well, not as confusing as you might think – just give me two minutes and I’ll explain.

Mutant Ape Yacht Club was a highly anticipated release from Bored Ape Yacht Club and was released this past Saturday. The mechanics behind it were pretty simple at a high level.
For every ape in your wallet you would get a Mutant Serum.

There are three different mutants serums but honestly, you really only need to know about two so I’ll focus on those, one is called M1, the other is called M2, they look like this:

Both of these serums mutate your ape by changing the traits, which in turn changes the way the ape looks.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club is regarded as an absolute society. Owning one of the coveted NFTs grants access to that membership. For example, it grants users access to a private Discord server, where fellow owners, including celebrities, can hang out and chat.
And apes tend to congregate on social media, where the increasingly familiar avatars have formed a digital brotherhood. Some might be listed for sale at a fixed price, while others may be auctioned off. To purchase an NFT on the site, you will need an Ethereum wallet, such as MetaMask, and sufficient ETH to cover both the purchase price and the Ethereum gas transaction fee.

Aside from their popularity as social media profile pictures, their versatility distinguishes the BAYC collection.

I’m glad I did because while it was a blast, there was also a lot of information to take in and strategic moves to think about. On top of all that, and probably the highlight of it all was celebrating with my fellow apes on what I think we’ll all look back on as a historic weekend in the NFT world.

Over the course of the weekend, friends and family were texting me asking what the heck this “mutant thing” is that they keep hearing about. Unable to explain over text I hopped on the phone with a few people but quickly realized it would be a pretty complex conversation to have, especially if you aren’t already familiar with Bored Ape Yacht Club.

That being said, I did my best and through the process started to develop a bit of a rhythm around how to explain Mutant Ape Yacht Club to people who are still trying to understand the NFT space in general.
