In short, the WNBA isn’t sleeping on the Metaverse, and because things are hopping online, the online economy will continue to grow – NFTs being one salable option.
But NBA NFT interest is on the decline
However, while there’s spending power and growing digital interest, there might not actually be NFT interest. The best reference point for a basketball league in the space at this point is the NBA. And while more than 340,000 NBA fans have joined Top Shot according to their website, search interest in NBA NFT related terms hit a huge spike in late February 2021 and has been on the decline ever since.
But, why weren’t NFTs already a massive deal back in 2017?
Well, the answer is that there were no real NFT marketplaces.
The likes of OpenSea, Rarible and Foundation didn’t exist.
A large part of this was due to the regulatory cloud around the process of buying NFTs and what they could mean for auction sites.
People were also more interested in scoring huge bags of ICO tokens and selling them on for insane profit.
But, it was around 2018 when the mainstream media really caught on to NFTs.
Once this happened, celebrities and marketplaces began popping up.
It was only at this point that NFTs really started to become worth a fair bit of money and really pulled in more and more buyers.
After Twitter’s Jack Dorsey sold his first Tweet for $2.9 million as an NFT, the hype really exploded.

NFT imitations are one of the biggest problems from scammers at the moment, and its getting worse. Many other NFT projects e.g. Aavegotchi Raffle tickets on Opensea. In this case, the scammer bought 1 or 2 genuine NFTs, minted some fake ones, then bundled them all together to sell as one.
Luckily these were removed within 24 hours. Good job Opensea!
How to avoid: Be extra vigilant. Check the sellers contract address. Check the author. Check that the seller is marked as verified on the marketplace.
Check the sellers sales history.Source: Above image used for example purposes only. Source rarible.com
3) Fake Artists
A relatively new scam. An influential artist from another social platform e.g.
DraftKing’s Marketplace just released today. We did our first drop just minutes ago at 3:00 PM Eastern. It was a Tom Brady related drop as a part of autographs preseason access collection. It was a drop of 5,000 and it sold instantly, so we’re really excited about that early adoption.
And we knew that that was going to happen.
Our audience, we have millions of customers on DraftKings who are some of the earliest adopters in any new technological trend. Early adopters on the blockchain with crypto, with NFTs, and so we knew that this would be tremendously popular with our audience and definitely weren’t disappointed.
– Matt, it certainly does seem like it is popular with your audience, but I also think it’s fair to say that there’s probably a fair share of your audience out there that doesn’t really get NFT.
Designed in partnership with GigLabs and swatchbook, a first-of-its-kind RareBall collection launched on November 19, 2021.

You were able to buy the album as an NFT, but you could also stream it on Spotify, which made it fungible….
So what exactly makes the When You See Yourself NFT an NFT, rather than a rather expensive copy of the album?
The extra goodies!
Kings of Leon threw in items like live show perks, front row seats to future concerts and exclusive audiovisual art.
These items make each When You See Yourself NFT unique and therefore an NFT.
Think of music NFTs akin to buying the season pass to your favorite video game.
It gives you unfettered access to unique extras that those regular folk on Spotify will never get to enjoy.
Can NFTs get stolen?
Technology is getting increasingly more complex, but as a result, it’s easier than ever to get hacked.
Buyer protections appear to be sparse at best, so when shopping for NFTs, it may be best to keep the old adage “caveat emptor” (let the buyer beware) in mind.
Should You Buy NFTs?
Just because you can buy NFTs, does that mean you should? It depends, Yu says.
“NFTs are risky because their future is uncertain, and we don’t yet have a lot of history to judge their performance,” she notes. “Since NFTs are so new, it may be worth investing small amounts to try it out for now.”
In other words, investing in NFTs is a largely personal decision. If you have money to spare, it may be worth considering, especially if a piece holds meaning for you.
But keep in mind, an NFT’s value is based entirely on what someone else is willing to pay for it.
The best way to detect a stolen NFT is by checking out its auction history.
If an NFT is up for sale for a significantly reduced price compared to its last sale, then err on the side of caution.
This is a major indicator that something nefarious is afoot and you’d do well to avoid making a decision to buy that NFT.
So, use cyber security best practices if you want to keep your NFTs secure.
Crypto and blockchain is a wild west, so make sure that you’re as safe as you can be!
What is the most expensive NFT?
Most people get into the world of NFTs because it appears to be incredibly lucrative.
But, the truth is actually somewhat different.
The majority of NFTs sell for a fraction of 1ETH, and as more creators flood marketplaces hoping to make a quick buck, the prices will continue to slide.
You will have to wait a few minutes for the blockchain to process everything, but within a few minutes your NFT will be in your wallet!
The next step is up to you.
Either share your NFT collection with the world, hide it in your wallet forever or list it for sale on one of the various marketplaces – the choice is yours.
Minting your own NFT is quick and easy, so don’t be afraid to get creative.
There are also agencies that you can rope in to help you do all of this, if you don’t feel like doing it yourself.
Obviously, you’ll end up paying a lot more for your NFT collection and some will keep ownership of your NFT, meaning that they can mint more at a later date if they wanted to.
The best option is to do it yourself, but that’s down to you at the end of the day.
Those Lady Vols, among the most talented teams ever in women’s college basketball, went 39-0 to win the 1998 NCAA title.
Catchings got one more trip to the Final Four, in 2000 when Tennessee lost the final to UConn. Her 2001 senior season was cut short because of a torn ACL, which is partly why she fell to the No. 3 pick in the WNBA draft that year. Indiana was smart enough to know Catchings was worth waiting a season for; she was rookie of the year in 2002 and will end her career as one of the most accomplished players in WNBA history.
She is already the WNBA’s leader in career steals (1,071).
With 3,305 rebounds, Catchings needs just three more to pass Los Angeles great Lisa Leslie as the league’s all-time leader in that category. She is No.
