As fashion and gaming continue to merge; from Xbox and Gucci to Balenciaga and Fortnite, and brands prepare to fully immerse themselves in the Metaverse, like it not, the change has already begun.
Whether you choose to dive headfirst into all things cryptocurrency and NFTs, aren’t sure of what it all entails, or find yourself running into the mountains at the thought of a Matrix-meets-Ready Player One world, the concept of ownership is shifting – for the better.
Ahead of a stacked release schedule for Black Friday, Cole Buxton has announced its first NFT collection, aptly titled “NFT Collection #1.”
The debut collection features a compilation of over 100, unique, hand-drawn pieces created from original concepts and designs from the CB’s lead designer and co-founder Cole Buxton.
Gala Games, a blockchain gaming startup that is pouring billions of dollars into music, film and theme park NFTs, Buxton is at the forefront of innovators strategizing how Web3 will facilitate a new era of entertainment and fan interaction – even as the term “NFT” fades from use.
“Eventually people won’t talk about NFTs,” Buxton said. “They’ll talk about experiences. They’ll talk about new ways to engage. They’ll talk about being able to create experiences even if you can’t be there.”
Throughout the pandemic, leaders in the livestreaming sector reassured others in the live industry that digital experiences wouldn’t cannibalize physical ones once touring returned, but rather augment them, expanding their reach to audiences without physical access, and the “Game Changer” panelists affirmed that philosophy.
And, once again, it’s a futuristic model with historical precedent.

Likewise, seven-year-old London-based menswear brand Cole Buxton has just launched its first-ever NFT collection based on its design archives. The NFT Collection #1 is made up of over 100 completely unique, hand-drawn pieces, created from original concepts and designs of co-founder and lead fashion designer, Cole Buxton.
The NFTs will be given to the brand’s most loyal customers for free who will then be encouraged to resell them to benefit the brand’s forthcoming Cole Buxton Charity Foundation.
The last decade of social media has set the foundation for what is yet to come, and having collected a number of NFTs, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to reward our customers as we introduce them to this next chapter of fashion, art and curation.
We hope the NFTs will provide on-going value to those who have received them, and we also hope to raise money for the upcoming Cole Buxton foundation set to launch next year. As a brand, we will make no money from the NFT release, but what’s important is that our community is nurtured and rewarded for the support they’ve given us.
ONE37pm: How did you guys decide which pieces to select for this collection?
CB: We really wanted to build out a collection of looks combining past, current and future pieces.

For instance, Original Penguin wraps a two-week online Augmented Reality-powered NFT campaign and auction today to support young digital creatives. It allowed fans to view and purchase TikTok videos created by the brand and five influencers as the actual NFT asset.

It’s giving that utility and that greater usefulness to every NFT that we have in our platform.”
One of the most compelling things about decentralization is giving players access to new economies they could not access in the real world, while still in the context of a game that’s fun to play.
“We get stories from our community all the time about what playing has enabled them to unlock [financially] in their lives — whether that’s settling bills, whether that’s buying things for their home, whether that’s looking after their kids,” she said. “And I think being able to fling those doors open has meant that more people in the world cannot just access this stuff, but feel like it’s okay to want to do it. And unlike some of the physical resources in the world, it’s limitless.”
The hesitancy is that the counter impact isn’t clear yet.
